🌎 Origin & Story
Passionfruit (Passiflora edulis) originates from South America, particularly Brazil, Paraguay, and northern Argentina. The name “Passionflower” comes from early Spanish missionaries who saw symbolism of the Passion of Christ in the flower’s structure.
‘Bounty’ is a collector-favored cultivar/selection, often chosen for:
- Strong vigor
- Reliable fruiting
- Balanced flavor
While not always widely documented like commercial cultivars, it has built a reputation through growers and specialty nurseries for performance and taste consistency.
🌿 Growth Habits & Seasonal Behavior (Florida Focus)
- Spring: Rapid vine growth + flowering begins 🌸
- Summer: Peak growth + fruit set 🍈
- Fall: Heavy harvest season
- Winter (Zone 9): May slow or partially die back ❄️
👉 Passionfruit is semi-evergreen to deciduous depending on cold exposure
- Leaves may yellow and drop during cold spells 🍂
- New growth returns quickly in spring 🌱
Important: Not ideal as a “clean” focal plant — better suited for:
- Trellises
- Fence lines
- Backyard production zones
🪴 Container Growing & Indoor Notes
Yes — ‘Bounty’ Passionfruit can be grown in containers, especially early on.
Recommended progression:
- 4” → 1 gallon → 3 gallon → 7+ gallon
Tips:
- Use a well-draining mix (coco coir + perlite + compost)
- Provide strong support (trellis or stake)
- Full sun is critical — indoors requires very bright light
💡 Best kept outdoors in Florida conditions for productivity.
Best Practices for Planting and Care
🌞 Where to Plant
- Full sun (6–8+ hrs)
- Protected from strong winds if possible
- Not salt-tolerant — avoid coastal exposure zones
🌱 Planting Method (High & Tight)
- Dig hole slightly wider than container, same depth
- Plant slightly elevated (“high & tight”) for drainage
- Backfill with native soil + compost blend
- Top dress with mulch (keep away from stem)

🔍 Troubleshooting Guide
| ⚠️ Issue | 🧠 Cause | 🌿 Solution |
|---|---|---|
| 🍂 Yellow leaves | 💦 Overwatering | Improve drainage, reduce watering |
| 🐛 Chewed leaves | Caterpillars/insects | Apply neem oil, encourage 🐞 |
| 🌸 No fruit | Poor pollination | Add pollinator plants 🐝 |
| 🍃 Leaf drop | Seasonal change | Normal — monitor new growth |
| 🪣 Root rot | Poor drainage | Plant high & tight |
🌿 Companion Planting (Highly Recommended)
Create a thriving system with:
- 🌻 Mexican Sunflower (pollinator magnet + biomass)
- 🌾 Lemongrass or Vetiver (structure + chop & drop)
- 🌿 Pigeon Pea (nitrogen fixer)
- 🌼 Native flowers for pollination
⚠️ Cautions

Most plants recover quickly with proper watering, gradual light exposure, and basic aftercare. Some plants may require additional attention during the first few weeks.
Despite careful packing, minor cosmetic damage may occur during transit. Small issues such as broken leaves or stems typically resolve with time and proper care.
If your shipping box arrives with significant external damage, please contact UPS within 30 days to initiate a carrier claim.
⏱️ SHIPPING METHOD, TIMING & TRANSIT WINDOWS
All online orders ship via UPS Ground from our Central Florida nursery.

Southern U.S.: approximately 2 days
-
Midwest, West & Northern U.S.: 3–5 business days
