🍇 Pakistani Mulberry (Morus macroura) — 1-Gallon Size 🌿

Gourmet, extra-long berries with honey-sweet flavor — the showstopper of any mulberry collection.

If you’re chasing legendary fruit and a backyard focal point, the Pakistani Mulberry delivers: very long (3–4″+) crimson-to-black berries, ultra-low acid, and an addictive, raspberry-meets-honey sweetness you won’t find in standard types. Our 1-gallon plants are sturdier for shipping and establish quickly, bringing you closer to those swoon-worthy late spring harvests.

🌿 Quick Facts (Buyer’s Cheat Sheet)

Attribute Details
Botanical Name Morus macroura
Common Name Pakistani Mulberry
Plant Type Deciduous fruit tree • Self-fruitful
Size at Sale (Ships In) 1-gallon container (established, ready to plant)
Mature Height × Width 20–25 ft × 15–20 ft (keep 10–12 ft with pruning)
USDA Zones 8–10 (tender below ~20°F; protect young trees)
Sun Requirements Full sun (6–8+ hrs/day)
Cold Hardiness Warm-climate selection; protect from hard frost
Growth Habit Vigorous, upright to open canopy; long pendant fruit
Spacing 12–20 ft (or 8–10 ft if managed as a hedge)
ℹ️ Some sources list broader zone ranges. In real-world Florida/Southeast growing, Pakistani performs best in Zones 8–10 with protection for young trees and cold snaps.

🍇 Fruit & Flavor (Why It’s Famous)

  • Length & look: Extra-long berries (typically 3–4″, occasionally longer) that finish deep crimson to near-black
  • Flavor: Honey-sweet, low acid, with raspberry, floral, and light citrus notes
  • Texture: Tender, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth; thin skin
  • Main harvest (FL & Gulf): Late spring → early summer; in long warm seasons, picking often continues into mid-summer
  • Kitchen magic: Perfect fresh; stunning in fruit boards, tarts, coulis, sorbets, jams, and as a dehydrated gourmet snack

Pro tip: Keep moisture even during bloom and fruit swell for the longest, juiciest berries.

🌸 Why Choose Pakistani?

  • Gourmet caliber: The longest, sweetest berries in the mulberry world
  • Showpiece tree: Striking fruit clusters and handsome canopy
  • Fast growth: Vigorous once established; loves sun and heat
  • Premium add-on: Complements compact repeat-fruiters (Thai Dwarf, Everbearing) with a wow-factor main crop
⚠️ Expectation setting: Pakistani is a warm-zone premium fruit tree, not a dooryard “always pretty” ornamental. It’s deciduous and may show leaf spotting in humid spells—normal, followed by vigorous new growth.

🪴 Container & Patio Strategy (1-Gallon Advantage)

  • Step-up path: 1-gal → 10–15 gal patio container (or plant in-ground after 2–6 weeks)
  • Height in pots: Maintain 6–10 ft with tip-pruning
  • Soil: Rich, well-draining (compost + chunky bark/perlite)
  • Indoors? Not long-term; grow outdoors in full sun, rolling to protection only for freezes

🌾 Seasonal Habits (Florida & Similar Climates)

  • Fall: Leaves yellow & drop—normal dormancy
  • Winter: Bare framework; structural pruning window
  • Spring: Rapid leaf-out, flowers, and long fruit set
  • Early–Mid Summer: Main harvest (often extended with warmth)
  • Rainy season: Cosmetic spotting may appear—new growth replaces quickly

🧑‍🌾 Best Practices for Planting & Care

Where to Plant

Full sun; well-drained soil; wind-sheltered spot if possible. Site away from hardscape—ripe fruit can stain.

How to Plant — GreenDreams “High & Tight”

  1. Dig hole just wider than pot; same depth.
  2. Set root ball 1–2″ above grade (root flare visible).
  3. Backfill firmly with native soil + compost; water to settle.
  4. Mulch 2–3″ (hardwood chips), pulled away from trunk.

Watering

  • Weeks 1–2: Water daily (1-gal plants establish fast but still need consistent moisture)
  • Weeks 3–8: 2–3×/week; adjust to heat/rain
  • After establishment: Deep water during dry spells; keep containers evenly moist

Feeding

  • Spring: Compost or light organic fruit-tree fertilizer (≈5-5-5)
  • Avoid heavy N (excess leaf over fruit); keep a chop-and-drop mulch ring

Pruning (Shape for Quality)

  • Fruit forms on new growth. Maintain a low, wide framework and 10–12 ft height for easy harvest.
  • Perform big structural cuts in dormancy (reduces sap bleeding).
  • Light tip-prunes in season control length and encourage quality fruiting wood.

🌼 Companion & Support Guild (Regenerative Fertility)

  • Nitrogen fixers: Pigeon Pea, Sunn Hemp (summer)
  • Biomass makers: Mexican Sunflower (Tithonia) + Fakahatchee Grass (Zones 9–11) for a green (N)/brown (C) chop-and-drop pairing
  • Pollinators: Blue Porterweed, African Blue Basil, Salvias
  • Aesthetic partners: Bananas, Chaya, Turmeric for lush, layered looks

Chop-and-Drop: Cut companion biomass and drop it under the tree. This free mulch feeds soil life, boosts moisture retention, and replaces synthetics.

Troubleshooting (Florida & Beyond)

Symptom Likely Cause Organic Fix
Leaf spotting / yellowing Humidity or seasonal turnover Remove worst leaves; airflow; new growth follows
Weak set / short fruit Low sun or uneven moisture Ensure full sun; keep moisture even
Cold damage on tips Tender to frost Mulch roots; cover young trees during cold snaps
Root-knot nematodes (sandy soils) Common locally Sunn hemp cover crop; compost + mulch; raised beds/containers
Sap “bleeding” after cuts Pruned in active flow Save major cuts for dormancy
Bird pecks & stains Ripe fruit attracts wildlife Harvest daily; consider netting; site away from patios/vehicles

⚠️ Cautions

  • Warm-zone tree: Protect in cold snaps; not suited to sustained freezes.
  • Staining fruit: Site away from driveways/patios.
  • Not an indoor plant: Needs full sun and outdoor airflow.

🌟 Is Pakistani Right for You?

✅ Ideal for: Fruit lovers chasing gourmet sweetness; Florida/Southeast growers; collectors who want a “wow” cultivar alongside compact repeat-fruiters.

❌ Not ideal for: Very cold climates without protection; shoppers wanting a constant ornamental “look” year-round.

🚚 Shipping & Handling

  • Ships: 1-gallon live plant (sturdier than 4″; recovers faster from transit)
  • Best regions: Florida, the Southeast & Texas via UPS Ground (ships Mondays)

  • Weather disclaimer: Buyer discretion during peak heat/cold; we aren’t responsible for temperature-related stress
  • Dormancy: May ship leafless in cool months—normal for deciduous trees

🚚 LIVE PLANT SHIPPING & TRANSIT EXPECTATIONS

Live plants naturally experience stress during shipping. Temporary leaf drop, mild wilting, or cosmetic stress is normal after transit. Most plants recover quickly with proper watering, gradual light exposure, and basic aftercare. Some plants may require additional attention during the first few weeks.

Despite careful packing, minor cosmetic damage may occur during transit. Small issues such as broken leaves or stems typically resolve with time and proper care.

If your shipping box arrives with significant external damage, please contact UPS within 30 days to initiate a carrier claim.

⏱️ SHIPPING METHOD, TIMING & TRANSIT WINDOWS

All online orders ship via UPS Ground from our Central Florida nursery.

📦 Shipping Schedule: Orders ship once weekly on Mondays to reduce the risk of packages sitting in transit over weekends. A countdown clock on our website displays the next shipping date.

🚚 Typical Transit Times:
  • Florida: 1–2 days

  • Southern U.S.: approximately 2 days

  • Midwest, West & Northern U.S.: 3–5 business days

Long-distance shipments, particularly to the western U.S., may experience additional transit time due to agricultural inspections in states such as Arizona, California, and Texas.

Extended transit times can be more challenging for small or tender plants and may require additional recovery care after arrival.

🌡️ EXTREME WEATHER & SEASONAL RISK

Live plants are sensitive to temperature extremes.

We cannot guarantee plant condition during periods of extreme summer heat or winter cold and freezing temperatures. Weather-related delays, carrier interruptions, or exposure during delivery are beyond our control.

Customers are responsible for:

  • Monitoring tracking information sent via email

  • Retrieving packages promptly upon delivery

  • Preventing plants from being left outdoors in extreme conditions

During unsafe weather, holiday shipping volume, or extended transit risk, orders may be held and shipped the following week to protect plant health.

⚠️ CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY & REFUND POLICY

By purchasing live plants, customers acknowledge and accept the risks associated with shipping, weather exposure, transit delays, and regional suitability.

Refunds or replacements are considered only under exceptional circumstances and in accordance with our return and refund policy. We are not responsible for:

  • Weather-related damage

  • Carrier delays

  • Poor plant selection for a given climate or region

  • Improper care after delivery

Upon purchase, customers assume full responsibility for the ongoing care and success of their plants.

✅ CONSENT & AGREEMENT

By completing a purchase, you confirm that you have read, understand, and agree to all shipping policies, responsibilities, and conditions outlined above.

Our goal is transparency, plant health, and long-term growing success — and we appreciate your understanding and care when ordering live plants.
