🍈 Fruit Details

  • Flavor Profile: Mildly sweet with floral notes; berries are rich, juicy, and refreshing when fully ripe.
  • Berry Size & Color: Medium-sized berries with a deep blue skin and firm texture.
  • Harvest Window: Early to mid-summer (as early as May in Florida); yields over a 6+ week span.
  • Ripening Pattern: Begins ripening mid-season with half the crop maturing in the first few weeks.
  • Fruit Set: Self-pollinating but benefits from cross-pollination for heavier yields. Consider pairing with another early southern highbush like 'Biloxi' or 'Emerald' for increased productivity.

🌱 Why Grow Sharpblue?

  • Perfect for Southern Climates: Specifically developed for low-chill regions like Florida, Texas, and Southern California.
  • Compact & Adaptable: A true dwarf in the blueberry world, ideal for tight spaces, borders, and container gardening.
  • Heat, Humidity, and Drought-Tolerant: Handles extreme southern summers like a champ.
  • Kid-Friendly & No-Spray: Fresh, clean berries straight from your garden—safe for the whole family!
  • Excellent Disease Resistance: Sharpblue resists common blueberry fungal issues like stem blight and root rot when grown in well-draining soil.
  • Long Fruiting Season: Enjoy an extended harvest window compared to other highbush types.

🛠 Best Practices for Planting & Care

Where to Plant:

  • Choose a spot with full sun and well-draining, acidic soil (ideal pH: 4.5–5.5).
  • Avoid soggy or compacted soils—raised beds or containers are great alternatives.

Planting Method:

  • Use the GreenDreams “High & Tight” method (watch on YouTube) for optimal root establishment.
  • Space plants 4–6 ft apart, or 2–3 ft for hedging.

Watering Schedule:

  • Water daily for the first 1–2 weeks after transplanting.
  • Then switch to deep watering 1–2x weekly depending on rainfall.

Mulching Tips:

  • Apply 2–3 inches of pine bark, pine needles, or hardwood mulch to conserve moisture and maintain soil acidity.
  • Keep mulch a few inches away from the main stem.

Winter Notes for Florida Growers:

  • Sharpblue may hold some leaves in warm winters but can go semi-dormant. Protect from unexpected frosts in Zone 8 or colder with frost cloth or by container relocation.

🪴 Growing in Containers or Indoors

  • Container Size: Start with a 7–15 gallon pot with drainage holes.
  • Soil Mix: Use a lightweight mix of peat moss, pine bark, perlite, and composted pine for acid-loving plants.
  • Indoor Considerations: Can be brought indoors in cooler climates during frost spells, but needs full sun or a grow light setup to thrive.

⚠️ Things to Know

  • Not Frost-Hardy in Cold Zones: Not suitable for climates colder than Zone 7 without heavy protection or overwintering indoors.
  • Poor Wet Soil Tolerance: Must be planted in well-draining soil—root rot is a risk in soggy sites.
  • Deer Magnet: If you have deer pressure, fencing or netting may be necessary during fruiting season.

🚚 LIVE PLANT SHIPPING & TRANSIT EXPECTATIONS

Live plants naturally experience stress during shipping. Temporary leaf drop, mild wilting, or cosmetic stress is normal after transit. Most plants recover quickly with proper watering, gradual light exposure, and basic aftercare. Some plants may require additional attention during the first few weeks.

Despite careful packing, minor cosmetic damage may occur during transit. Small issues such as broken leaves or stems typically resolve with time and proper care.

If your shipping box arrives with significant external damage, please contact UPS within 30 days to initiate a carrier claim.

⏱️ SHIPPING METHOD, TIMING & TRANSIT WINDOWS

All online orders ship via UPS Ground from our Central Florida nursery.

📦 Shipping Schedule: Orders ship once weekly on Mondays to reduce the risk of packages sitting in transit over weekends. A countdown clock on our website displays the next shipping date.

🚚 Typical Transit Times:
  • Florida: 1–2 days

  • Southern U.S.: approximately 2 days

  • Midwest, West & Northern U.S.: 3–5 business days

Long-distance shipments, particularly to the western U.S., may experience additional transit time due to agricultural inspections in states such as Arizona, California, and Texas.

Extended transit times can be more challenging for small or tender plants and may require additional recovery care after arrival.

🌡️ EXTREME WEATHER & SEASONAL RISK

Live plants are sensitive to temperature extremes.

We cannot guarantee plant condition during periods of extreme summer heat or winter cold and freezing temperatures. Weather-related delays, carrier interruptions, or exposure during delivery are beyond our control.

Customers are responsible for:

  • Monitoring tracking information sent via email

  • Retrieving packages promptly upon delivery

  • Preventing plants from being left outdoors in extreme conditions

During unsafe weather, holiday shipping volume, or extended transit risk, orders may be held and shipped the following week to protect plant health.

⚠️ CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY & REFUND POLICY

By purchasing live plants, customers acknowledge and accept the risks associated with shipping, weather exposure, transit delays, and regional suitability.

Refunds or replacements are considered only under exceptional circumstances and in accordance with our return and refund policy. We are not responsible for:

  • Weather-related damage

  • Carrier delays

  • Poor plant selection for a given climate or region

  • Improper care after delivery

Upon purchase, customers assume full responsibility for the ongoing care and success of their plants.
