Pepper - Iquito 4”(Capsicum Chinense)
Iquitos Sweet Pepper (Capsicum chinense)
🌶️ Sweet Flavor, Tropical Toughness, Zero Heat
A Rare Pepper That Delivers All the Flavor Without the Fire
Imagine everything people love about habanero peppers—the tropical aroma, fruity flavor, heavy production, and rugged heat tolerance—but without the burn. That's exactly what the Iquitos Sweet Pepper brings to the garden.
Native to the Amazon region and named after the city of Iquitos in Peru, this unique Capsicum chinense variety has become a favorite among gardeners, chefs, homesteaders, and food forest enthusiasts looking for a productive pepper that thrives in hot, humid climates.
Unlike many sweet peppers that struggle through Florida summers, Iquitos Sweet continues producing through intense heat, humidity, and rainfall. The fruits are larger than many traditional Aji Dulce types and can be eaten fresh right off the plant just like a bell pepper.
For growers who love tropical food production, this is one of those hidden-gem peppers that quickly becomes a permanent part of the garden.

🌎 Origin Story: A Sweet Pepper From the Heart of the Amazon
Iquitos Sweet traces its roots to the Amazon Basin around Iquitos, Peru—one of the largest cities in the world inaccessible by road. This region is considered one of the centers of diversity for Capsicum chinense peppers.
While many peppers in this species evolved intense heat as a defense mechanism, Iquitos Sweet is notable for producing the signature fruity, floral aroma associated with habaneros while containing little to no capsaicin. The result is a pepper that delivers exceptional flavor without overwhelming spice.
Over time, seed savers and tropical gardeners spread this variety throughout the Caribbean, Florida, and other warm-climate growing regions where it earned a reputation for thriving under conditions that challenge conventional sweet peppers.

🚚 LIVE PLANT SHIPPING & TRANSIT EXPECTATIONS
Live plants naturally experience stress during shipping. Temporary leaf drop, mild wilting, or cosmetic stress is normal after transit. Most plants recover quickly with proper watering, gradual light exposure, and basic aftercare. Some plants may require additional attention during the first few weeks.
Despite careful packing, minor cosmetic damage may occur during transit. Small issues such as broken leaves or stems typically resolve with time and proper care.
If your shipping box arrives with significant external damage, please contact UPS within 30 days to initiate a carrier claim.
⏱️ SHIPPING METHOD, TIMING & TRANSIT WINDOWS
All online orders ship via UPS Ground from our Central Florida nursery.
📦 Shipping Schedule: Orders ship once weekly on Mondays to reduce the risk of packages sitting in transit over weekends. A countdown clock on our website displays the next shipping date.

Extended transit times can be more challenging for small or tender plants and may require additional recovery care after arrival.
