๐ฑ Top Benefits & Uses
๐ง Water-Saving Lawn Replacement
Once established, it thrives with minimal watering and stays green in Floridaโs toughest heat.
๐พ Soil Builder & Nitrogen Fixer
Enriches soil naturally โ no need for nitrogen fertilizer.
๐บ Long Blooming Season
Golden-yellow flowers appear nearly year-round in frost-free zones.
๐ Pollinator-Friendly
Native bees adore the bright blossoms, helping increase pollination across your property.
๐ฟ Erosion Control & Living Mulch
Its dense rhizome network holds soil in place, making it ideal for slopes, sandy soils, and between fruit trees.
๐ Where to Plant
Choose a full-sun location with well-drained sandy or loamy soil. Avoid heavy clay or constantly wet spots. Perfect for:
- Lawns and pathways (low-traffic areas)
- Orchard understories and between fruit trees
- Berms, slopes, and sandy gardens
- Food forests and regenerative landscapes
๐ฑ How to Plant (High & Tight Method)
- Dig a hole slightly wider than the pot and no deeper than the rootball.
- Keep crown level with or slightly above the soil line.
- Backfill with native soil and compost, pressing gently to eliminate air pockets.
- Water thoroughly and mulch around (not touching stems).
- Space plants 12โ18 inches apart for fast coverage.
For a demonstration, watch our GreenDreams โHigh & Tightโ planting video on YouTube.
๐ง Watering
- Water daily for the first week, then reduce to 2โ3 times weekly.
- Once established, the perennial peanut thrives on minimal irrigation.
โ๏ธ Mowing & Maintenance
- Optional mowing encourages dense, uniform growth and repeat blooms.
- Mow or trim every 4โ6 weeks if used as a decorative lawn.
- Minimal care needed beyond occasional edging and weeding during early growth.
๐ผ Edible & Ecological Notes
- Flowers are edible and have a fresh, green-peanut flavor โ a fun, subtle treat for salads and garnishes.
- Use caution when harvesting from areas that may have been exposed to chemicals, fertilizers, or pet activity.
- Always harvest from clean, organically maintained areas.
- Blooms also attract small pollinators and beneficial insects that help balance your garden ecosystem.
๐ฟ Seasonal Behavior
In Zones 8bโ9a, foliage may die back in winter after frost, regrowing in spring from rhizomes. In South Florida, it stays mostly evergreen and continues to bloom.
๐ชด Container & Small-Space Growing
Use your 4โ starter as a potted accent or spillover plant in patio containers, raised beds, or micro food forests. It thrives with full sun and good drainage.
โ ๏ธ Cautions
- Handles only light foot traffic; not suitable for heavy play areas.
- Avoid constant soggy soils; prefers well-drained conditions.
- Foliage burns in frost but rebounds quickly once warm.
Troubleshooting Guide
| Problem | Likely Cause & Fix |
|---|---|
| Slow establishment | Common with 4โ startersโkeep soil moist and weed-free during first 2โ3 months. |
| Yellowing leaves | Check drainage and avoid overwatering; top-dress with compost or minerals. |
| Few blooms | Increase sunlight exposure and consider light trimming to refresh growth. |
| Winter dieback | Normal response to frost; regrowth occurs in spring. |

๐ LIVE PLANT SHIPPING & TRANSIT EXPECTATIONS
Live plants naturally experience stress during shipping. Temporary leaf drop, mild wilting, or cosmetic stress is normal after transit. Most plants recover quickly with proper watering, gradual light exposure, and basic aftercare. Some plants may require additional attention during the first few weeks.
Despite careful packing, minor cosmetic damage may occur during transit. Small issues such as broken leaves or stems typically resolve with time and proper care.
If your shipping box arrives with significant external damage, please contact UPS within 30 days to initiate a carrier claim.
โฑ๏ธ SHIPPING METHOD, TIMING & TRANSIT WINDOWS
All online orders ship via UPS Ground from our Central Florida nursery.
๐ฆ Shipping Schedule: Orders ship once weekly on Mondays to reduce the risk of packages sitting in transit over weekends. A countdown clock on our website displays the next shipping date.
๐ Typical Transit Times:
-
Florida: 1–2 days
-
Southern U.S.: approximately 2 days
-
Midwest, West & Northern U.S.: 3–5 business days
Long-distance shipments, particularly to the western U.S., may experience additional transit time due to agricultural inspections in states such as Arizona, California, and Texas.
Extended transit times can be more challenging for small or tender plants and may require additional recovery care after arrival.
๐ก๏ธ EXTREME WEATHER & SEASONAL RISK
Live plants are sensitive to temperature extremes.
We cannot guarantee plant condition during periods of extreme summer heat or winter cold and freezing temperatures. Weather-related delays, carrier interruptions, or exposure during delivery are beyond our control.
Customers are responsible for:
-
Monitoring tracking information sent via email
-
Retrieving packages promptly upon delivery
-
Preventing plants from being left outdoors in extreme conditions
During unsafe weather, holiday shipping volume, or extended transit risk, orders may be held and shipped the following week to protect plant health.
โ ๏ธ CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY & REFUND POLICY
By purchasing live plants, customers acknowledge and accept the risks associated with shipping, weather exposure, transit delays, and regional suitability.
Refunds or replacements are considered only under exceptional circumstances and in accordance with our return and refund policy. We are not responsible for:
-
Weather-related damage
-
Carrier delays
-
Poor plant selection for a given climate or region
-
Improper care after delivery
Upon purchase, customers assume full responsibility for the ongoing care and success of their plants.
โ CONSENT & AGREEMENT
By completing a purchase, you confirm that you have read, understand, and agree to all shipping policies, responsibilities, and conditions outlined above.
