Coffee Arabica 4”
☕ Coffee Plant – A Living Tribute to the World’s Most Loved Beverage 🌿
Coffea arabica – The Original Arabica Coffee Tree
Growing your own coffee plant is less about replacing your grocery store beans — and more about understanding the remarkable plant behind every cup. 🌿
This live Coffee plant (Coffea arabica), shipped in a 4-inch container, offers glossy evergreen foliage, fragrant white blooms, and the possibility of small harvests in the right conditions.
It is a beautiful tropical ornamental.
It is a conversation starter.
And it is a humbling reminder of the tremendous work global coffee farmers undertake to produce such a small yield from such an extensive footprint.
Even in ideal climates, coffee production requires many trees and years of careful management. Growing one at home is a novelty — and a meaningful one.

Outdoor Growing Climate – Important Reality Check
Coffea arabica evolved in the cool, humid highlands of Ethiopia under forest canopy.
It prefers:
- 65–80°F daytime temperatures
- High humidity
- Filtered sunlight
- Frost-free winters
✅ Best U.S. Outdoor Regions:
- South Florida (Zone 10–11)
- Protected 9B microclimates
- Hawaii
- Southernmost Texas (with winter protection)
⚠️ Not Recommended for In-Ground Planting:
- Zone 8 and colder
- Regions with recurring freezes
- Exposed coastal salt zones
- Dry desert climates
Damage begins around 32°F.
Repeated freezes can kill the plant.
For most of the continental U.S., container growing is strongly advised.
☕ About Yield – Honest Expectations
Coffee production is labor-intensive and land-intensive.
A single mature tree, even in ideal tropical conditions, produces only a modest amount of beans per season. It takes:
- Multiple trees
- Years of establishment
- Careful harvesting and processing
- Skilled roasting
To produce meaningful output.
Your homegrown plant may eventually produce cherries — but it should be viewed as:
🌿 An educational edible
🌿 A botanical curiosity
🌿 A tribute to global coffee agriculture
Not a replacement for commercial coffee production.
Growing it deepens appreciation for the farmers who cultivate entire hillsides for the same result as a small bag of beans.
🌿 Ornamental & Botanical Appeal
Even without fruiting, Coffea arabica is stunning:
- Deep emerald, glossy leaves
- Elegant opposite leaf arrangement
- Layered branching habit
- Fragrant white blooms 🌸
- Bright red berries 🍒 (when produced)
It performs beautifully as:
- Indoor statement plant
- Tropical patio specimen
- Protected understory shrub in South Florida landscapes
🍒 Coffee Cherry & Bean Details
🌸 Flowers
- Star-shaped, bright white
- Intensely fragrant (jasmine-like)
- Often triggered by rainfall cycles
🍒 Fruit
- Red when ripe
- Sweet, slightly tangy pulp
- Two beans per cherry (sometimes one “peaberry”)
☕ Arabica Flavor Profile
- Smooth, balanced body
- Subtle fruit, chocolate, caramel notes
- Lower bitterness than Robusta
Arabica represents roughly 60–70% of global coffee production.
🌱 Best Practices for Planting & Care of Coffea arabica
🚚 After Shipping
Allow your Coffee plant to acclimate in its container for at least 30 days or until new growth appears before transplanting.
🌤️ Where to Plant
Outdoors (Zones 9B–11)
- Morning sun, afternoon shade
- Protected from wind 🌬️
- Avoid full blazing sun exposure
- Well-drained soil only
Indoors
- Bright indirect light
- Near east or south-facing window
- Avoid low-light rooms
🌱 Planting Method – High & Tight
When planting Coffea arabica in-ground:
- Dig hole slightly wider than container
- Plant at same depth — never deeper
- Firm soil gently around root ball
- Slight mound if drainage is questionable
We follow the High & Tight method:

- Keep evenly moist
- Water daily in warm months
- Never allow standing water
In-Ground
- 2–3 times weekly during establishment
- Weekly deep watering during dry spells
- Drip irrigation preferred
✂️ Pruning
- Maintain 4–6 ft for patio/indoor culture
- Remove crossing branches
- Light shaping after fruiting
- Encourage lateral branching
🌾 Fertility
- Balanced tropical fertilizer during growing season
- Compost 2–3 times yearly
- Avoid over-fertilizing 🔥
🍂 Seasonal Behavior (Florida)
Coffea arabica is evergreen.
- Spring: Growth flush 🌱
- Summer: Active vegetative growth
- Fall: Possible fruit maturation
- Winter: Slower growth, frost protection required ❄️
🔍 Troubleshooting Guide
| ⚠️ Issue | 🧠 Cause | 🌿 Solution |
|---|---|---|
| 🍂 Yellow leaves | 💦 Overwatering | Improve drainage |

🚚 LIVE PLANT SHIPPING & TRANSIT EXPECTATIONS
Live plants naturally experience stress during shipping. Temporary leaf drop, mild wilting, or cosmetic stress is normal after transit. Most plants recover quickly with proper watering, gradual light exposure, and basic aftercare. Some plants may require additional attention during the first few weeks.
Despite careful packing, minor cosmetic damage may occur during transit. Small issues such as broken leaves or stems typically resolve with time and proper care.
If your shipping box arrives with significant external damage, please contact UPS within 30 days to initiate a carrier claim.
⏱️ SHIPPING METHOD, TIMING & TRANSIT WINDOWS
All online orders ship via UPS Ground from our Central Florida nursery.
📦 Shipping Schedule: Orders ship once weekly on Mondays to reduce the risk of packages sitting in transit over weekends. A countdown clock on our website displays the next shipping date.
🚚 Typical Transit Times:
-
Florida: 1–2 days
-
Southern U.S.: approximately 2 days
-
Midwest, West & Northern U.S.: 3–5 business days
Long-distance shipments, particularly to the western U.S., may experience additional transit time due to agricultural inspections in states such as Arizona, California, and Texas.
Extended transit times can be more challenging for small or tender plants and may require additional recovery care after arrival.

-
Weather-related damage
-
Carrier delays
