🌼 Blooms Fit for Royalty

  • Giant Milkweed produces large clusters of crown-shaped white or lavender flowers that resemble tiny crowns.
  • Blooms last nearly year-round in Florida and tropical climates.
  • The soft, gray-green leaves provide the perfect nursery for monarch caterpillars, while the flowers draw in pollinators like bees, hummingbirds, and swallowtails.

🌱 Top Benefits and Uses

  • Pollinator Paradise: Host plant for monarch butterflies & nectar source for dozens of pollinators.
  • Ornamental Beauty: Dramatic size, velvety foliage, and exotic blooms make it a bold landscape feature.
  • Low-Maintenance: Drought-tolerant once established, thriving in tough soils with minimal fuss.
  • Cultural Roots: Native to tropical Asia and Africa, where it’s been valued in folk medicine for generations.
  • Wildlife Habitat: Supports ecological balance by feeding caterpillars and beneficial insects.

🌸 Ornamental & Container Gardening Notes

  • Landscape Appeal: Perfect for butterfly gardens, tropical borders, and as a focal-point shrub.
  • Container Growing: Can be grown in large pots (15–20 gal). Prune regularly to keep compact.
  • Indoor Growing: Not recommended indoors long-term due to its size and need for direct sun, but young plants can be overwintered in greenhouses or bright sunrooms.

🌿 Best Practices for Planting and Care

Where to Plant:

  • Choose full sun for best flowering and caterpillar support.
  • Prefers sandy or loamy soils but adapts well if drainage is adequate.

Planting Instructions:

  1. Dig a hole no deeper than the pot and twice as wide.
  2. Backfill with native soil blended with compost.
  3. Follow the “High & Tight” GreenDreams planting method: Watch Video.

Care Tips:

  • Watering: Daily at establishment → Weekly for first year → As needed in drought.
  • Mulching: Use hardwood mulch, but keep 2–3” away from the stem.
  • Pruning: Trim back to encourage branching, bushier shape, and extended flowering.
  • Winter Care (Florida & Southeast): Protect from frost with cloth or container relocation.

⚠️ Cautions

  • Toxic Latex: The milky sap can irritate skin and is toxic if ingested by pets or livestock. Use gloves when pruning.
  • Frost Sensitivity: Dies back in temps below 40°F but can resprout in spring.

1. Shipping Stress: Transportation can be stressful for plants, particularly when they spend several days in a confined, dark environment. It’s common for plants to experience leaf drop during this period. Rest assured, most plants typically recover quickly and thrive with minimal aftercare. However, some may need extra attention, love, and care, requiring appropriate watering and exposure to gentle light post-unboxing.

2. Potential Physical Damage: Despite our dedicated efforts to ensure that your plants are securely packaged, they may incur damage during shipping and handling by UPS. Rest assured, our shipping team is committed to packing your selections with utmost care and precision to minimize any potential harm.

  • For significant box damage, please reach out to UPS within 30 days to initiate a claim.

  • For minor damages, such as a broken branch or stem, we advise allowing the plant time to recover and regenerate with proper care and attention.

3. Long-Distance Shipping Considerations: Orders shipped over long distances, particularly to the western US, may take 3 - 5 business days to arrive due to various factors, including agricultural inspections in Arizona, California, and Texas. Such extended transit times can be particularly challenging for tender, young plants, affecting their quality due to prolonged confinement.

  • We take additional measures during packaging to facilitate a swift recovery of the plants upon unboxing.

  • Initial extra care and attention might be required over the first few weeks post-transport.

For further guidance, kindly review our detailed policies on returns and refunds, as well as our comprehensive plant care guide. We appreciate your understanding and patience in nurturing your new plants.
