🍵 Featured Recipe: Traditional Jamaican Mint Tea

This is the #1 most popular use for Costa Rican Mint — a soothing herbal tea enjoyed throughout the Caribbean for centuries.

🌿 Ingredients:

  • 4–5 fresh Costa Rican Mint leaves (or 1 tsp dried)
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • Optional: raw honey, lime, or a slice of ginger for added flavor

🔥 Directions:

  1. Rinse the leaves and lightly crush them to release natural oils.
  2. Pour boiling water over the leaves.
  3. Cover and steep for 5–7 minutes (longer for stronger flavor).
  4. Strain, sweeten with honey if desired, and serve hot or chilled.

🌸 Flavor Profile:

The tea has a smooth, herbal-minty flavor with subtle spice and warmth — similar to a cross between spearmint and thyme.

Perfect for soothing digestion, easing tension, and refreshing the senses.

🧑‍🌾 How to Plant & Care (Florida & Similar Climates)

🌞 Where to Plant

  • Full sun to part shade — brighter light = stronger fragrance

  • Avoid areas with standing water

🌱 Planting Method

  • Dig a hole just wider than the pot and equal in depth
  • Backfill with a blend of compost and native soil
  • Keep the plant’s base at or slightly above soil level
  • Mulch around (but not touching) the trunk
  • Learn more with our High & Tight Planting Video

💧 Watering

  • Water daily for the first 1–2 weeks after planting
  • Then reduce to 2–3 times per week for the first month
  • Once established, water weekly; increase frequency during drought
  • In containers, water when top 1–2" of soil feels dry

✂️ Pruning & Fertilizing

  • Light pruning encourages bushy growth and shape control
  • Prune tips regularly to promote branching
  • Feed organically during the growing season with compost or mild fertilizer

❄️ Seasonal Notes (Florida & Gulf Regions)

  • Sensitive to temperatures below 30°F — protect with frost cloth
  • May drop some leaves after cold snaps but rebounds in spring
  • Stays evergreen in tropical zones

🪴 Container & Indoor Growing Tips

  • Thrives in 3–5 gallon pots; size up to 10–15 gallons for a patio tree
  • Position in full sun outdoors or bright indoor light
  • Suitable for overwintering indoors in cool climates
  • Regular pruning keeps it compact and lush

🌿 Companion & Support Guild Ideas

Best companions for healthy, resilient growth:

  • 🌻 Biomass / Chop-and-Drop: Mexican Sunflower (Tithonia diversifolia)
  • 🌾 Nitrogen Fixer: Pigeon Pea (Cajanus cajan)
  • 🌸 Pollinators: Firebush (Hamelia patens), Blue Porterweed (Stachytarpheta jamaicensis)
  • 🌱 Silica Source: Horsetail Reed (Equisetum hyemale)

🧩 Troubleshooting Guide

Issue Cause & Solution
Leggy growth Increase sunlight; pinch tips to encourage branching
Yellowing leaves after cold Temporary cold stress — prune lightly & wait for spring rebound
Wilting despite moisture Check drainage; roots may be waterlogged
Slow growth in containers Gradually upsize pot & refresh potting mix annually
Weak aroma Needs more sun or trimming to stimulate new, fragrant shoots

🚚 LIVE PLANT SHIPPING & TRANSIT EXPECTATIONS

Live plants naturally experience stress during shipping. Temporary leaf drop, mild wilting, or cosmetic stress is normal after transit. Most plants recover quickly with proper watering, gradual light exposure, and basic aftercare. Some plants may require additional attention during the first few weeks.

Despite careful packing, minor cosmetic damage may occur during transit. Small issues such as broken leaves or stems typically resolve with time and proper care.

If your shipping box arrives with significant external damage, please contact UPS within 30 days to initiate a carrier claim.

⏱️ SHIPPING METHOD, TIMING & TRANSIT WINDOWS

All online orders ship via UPS Ground from our Central Florida nursery.

📦 Shipping Schedule: Orders ship once weekly on Mondays to reduce the risk of packages sitting in transit over weekends. A countdown clock on our website displays the next shipping date.

🚚 Typical Transit Times:
  • Florida: 1–2 days

  • Southern U.S.: approximately 2 days

  • Midwest, West & Northern U.S.: 3–5 business days

Long-distance shipments, particularly to the western U.S., may experience additional transit time due to agricultural inspections in states such as Arizona, California, and Texas.

Extended transit times can be more challenging for small or tender plants and may require additional recovery care after arrival.

🌡️ EXTREME WEATHER & SEASONAL RISK

Live plants are sensitive to temperature extremes.

We cannot guarantee plant condition during periods of extreme summer heat or winter cold and freezing temperatures. Weather-related delays, carrier interruptions, or exposure during delivery are beyond our control.

Customers are responsible for:

  • Monitoring tracking information sent via email

  • Retrieving packages promptly upon delivery

  • Preventing plants from being left outdoors in extreme conditions

During unsafe weather, holiday shipping volume, or extended transit risk, orders may be held and shipped the following week to protect plant health.

⚠️ CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY & REFUND POLICY

By purchasing live plants, customers acknowledge and accept the risks associated with shipping, weather exposure, transit delays, and regional suitability.

Refunds or replacements are considered only under exceptional circumstances and in accordance with our return and refund policy. We are not responsible for:

  • Weather-related damage

  • Carrier delays

  • Poor plant selection for a given climate or region

  • Improper care after delivery

Upon purchase, customers assume full responsibility for the ongoing care and success of their plants.
