Jaboticaba Tree Scarlet, Brazilian Grape (Plina cauliflora)- LIVE PLANT

Ships in 4" pot

Jaboticaba is a slow growing tropical to subtropical evergreen tree or large shrub that bears edible, grape-like purple fruits with a sweet, juicy, gelatinous, white pulp. Scarlets are considered one of the most early fruiting Jaboticbas from seed, which can fruit from seed in about 3 years. In addition, fruits are one of the sweetest, coming in slightly sweeter than red Jaboticaba. They are good at early stages of ripeness, but are best when their skin has thinned at full ripeness.

Fresh fruit may begin to ferment 3 to 4 days after harvest, so they are often used to make jams, tarts, strong wines, and liqueurs. Trees will tolerate minimums of 27 to 29°F (-2 to 3°C) for 2 or 3 hours if they are in good condition. However, young trees may be severely injured at those temperatures; therefore, it is important that it is protected below 30 degrees. We suggest keeping your tree in a container that can be relocated into a greenhouse or indoors during freezing weather conditions.

  • Average mature height: 30 feet
  • Light: Full to partial sun
  • Soil: moist, lightly acidic soils for best growth.
  • Hardiness zones: 9-11

*Shipping Plants:
-Stress- Shipping can cause stress to a plant, mostly because it spends a few days in a dark stuffy box. Most of plants survive with no problems or with a minimal stress (some leaf drop may occur), and recover quickly others may require extra love and attention with watering and gentle light after unboxing.
-Physical damage- Sometimes a carrier may damage boxes during handling.
It does not happen often as we try to pack your plants with extra special attention but unfortunately there are some things beyond our control.  In cases of serious damage, only the carrier can be responsible for it- so please contact the carrier within 30 days to start a claim. If it's just a broken branch or even part of a stem - just let it grow, take care of your plant and it will respond to your love. We understand your frustration if damage occurs, and strive to do everything we can on our end to minimize all damage and stress on the plant
